The

Kitchen Table

The kitchen table has been the gathering place for families across many centuries and many different cultures. Today, that simple act of coming together for a family meal is diminishing. Let’s remember the benefits we have gained from being at the table with family and friends.

Across the Decades

Step back in time as you explore the current exhibits throughout our campus. Get a glimpse into people’s daily lives from the 1950s through the 2000s—and what it took to pause at the end of the day and gather around the kitchen table.

We hope this time of reflection encourages and inspires you to gather once again around your own table. In a changing world, the simple act of sharing a meal, conversation, and fellowship remains a timeless and foundational expression of faith.

Where Faith Is Lived

Throughout Scripture, the table was never just a place for a meal.  It was a place of teaching, fellowship, and transformation. Jesus often used a table to invite people into truth, relationship, and a changed life.

When we gather around the table, we create space for faith to be practiced, not just talked about.  Afterall, following Jesus isn’t something we do once a week; it’s something we should live out every day. And one of the most powerful places that can happen is at the table.

Kitchen Table Challenges

We would love to hear about the hospitality happening in your home. Send us an update using the button below. You can even include a photo of the people at your table!

Challenge #1 – Open Your Table

This week:Ā Invite someone you normally wouldn’t over for time together. It doesn’t have to be a full meal—coffee, dessert, or snacks are perfect.
Send us a photo or message telling us who you invited and how it went!

Challenge #2 – Unexpected Service

This week:Ā Show care for a neighbor in a practical way.
Pick up sticks, take in their trash can, offer to grab something from the store, or simply check in and ask how they’re doing.
Tell us how you met a need this week.

Challenge #3 – No Distractions

This week:Ā Sit around the table—at least once this week—with no phones, TVs, or distractions. Ask one simple question to each person:Ā ā€œWhat’s been the best part of your day?ā€
Share a picture of your screen-free time.

Challenge #4 – Simple Invitation

This week:Ā Invite someone to join you—at your table, for coffee, or even to church.Ā No pressure, just a genuine invitation. Hospitality often starts with asking.
If you’d like, share a photo or message about the invitation.

Challenge #5 – The Thank-You Table

This week:Ā Write a thank-you note or send a message to someone who has shown you hospitality or kindness. If possible, deliver it in person or invite them to sit with you for a few minutes.
Let us know who you encouraged and how it made you feel.

Acts 2:Ā 46–47 (NIVĀ®)
They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,Ā praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number dailyĀ those who were being saved.Ā
